Halò Single Malt Mates,
Nollaig chridheil agus Bliadhma mhath ur! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Mo Mac and I had a dram of Bladnoch 15 last week. It was a guid dram. It was very sherried, the drams that I like most….
Mo Chairdean Choir, my dear friends, Gordon and MacPhail have come through once more. They have bottled a 23 year old Bladnoch in their Connoisseur’s Choice series…
1993 Connoisseur’s choice
Producer Gordon and Macphail
Age 23 Year Old
Bottle Size 70cl
Alc. Volume 46%
Bladnoch distillery is once again firing up its stills to produce whisky but things didn’t always look so rosy for this often overlooked Lowland. This bottling from Gordon and MacPhail was distilled in 1993 and it a great example of the whisky being made there then. Bottled in 2016
Bladnoch is noted for its floral, and fruity notes so it is reasonable to think that this expression was matured in sherry puncheons along with the usual bourbon casks.
Here is a set of tasting notes from a younger, different Bladnoch, a 15.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: áMedium. Unlit cigars, citrus; mandarin and orange. Cocoa dusting.á
Palate: áRich, lovely dryness. Chocolate orange, freshly ground coffee, malty, touch of peat.
Finish: áLong and urbane, more citrus and whispers, or ‘Wispas’ as the case may be, of chocolate.
“Whisky, drink divine!
Why should drivelers bore us
With the praise of wine
While we’ve thee before us?”
“Love makes the world go round? Not at all. Whiskey makes it go round twice as fast.”
I would like to make a toast to lying, stealing, cheating and drinking.
If you’re going to lie, lie for a friend. If you’re going to steal, steal a heart.
If your going to cheat, cheat death.
And if you’re going to drink, drink with me.
A h-uile la sona dhuibh‘s gun la idir dona dhuibh!
May all your days be happy ones.
Slàinte mhòr agus a h-uile beannachd duibh.
Great health and every good blessing to you
