A wee collectable from a shut down distiller

Halò, Single Malt Mates,

When I was in Scotland, we saw many distilleries that were shut down. The Dallas Dhu distillery is a museum. We had a good time going through the rooms with the stills, washbacks, and mashtuns. A working distillery is more fun. Did you know the machine they use in many distillery’s to grind the barley is over 100 years old? Still works great.

You can still buy a Dallas Dhu expression from the distillery store and from Indie bottlers.

Anyway, I have stumbled onto an expression distilled in 1981.

Here is the expression:

North Port
1981 Connoisseurs Choice 40% 70cl

Description
North Port distillery, which is also known as Brechin distillery after the distillery that homed it, was sadly demolished in 1994. We’ll never see and spirit made from it again but luckily some cunning people still have casks maturing in warehouses around Scotland. This release comes from Gordon and MacPhail and is a very rare example of this lost malt.

Details
Producer Gordon and MacPhail
Bottle Size 70cl
Alc. Volume 40%
Bottler Official

Vintage 1981
Country Scotland

This expression is so rare that they don’t dare open one for tasting notes. It is a collectors item for sure..

Inspiring bold John Barleycorn!
What dangers thou canst make us scorn!
Wi’tippeny, we Fear nae evil;
Wi’usquabae, we’ll face the devil!

May the hinges of friendship never rust nor the wings of love lose a feather!
