A rare find in Las Vegas

Halo Single Malt Mates

I was wandering around the Venetian Hotel and Casino today and I stumbled on a rare find indeed. A restaurant and bar with a good selection of single malt Scotch whisky. They had Macallan Fine Oak, I think,  Macallan 12 and 18, Oban 14, Craigellachiee 13 to name a few.

Description

Glendronach is renowned for making fantastic whiskies that combine different cask styles to achieve a well balanced, complex dram. After an initial maturation in European oak, this edition is finished in a small batch of virgin oak casks, remaking the critically acclaimed Virgin Oak bottling from their ‘Wood Finishes’ series in 2010. This special edition is full of nuts and fruit with a spice and smoke twist

Staff Tasting Notes
Colour: A nice warm amber with golden highlights.
Nose: Freshly peeled oranges and pears. There is some expected raisin notes from the sherry influence but it’s still surprisingly fresh and citrusy. Notes of grapefruits appear once left for a while.
Palate: Very smooth, delicate dark chocolate notes move over the palate. Hot raisins with only some of the citrus character hinted from the nose.
Finish: Homemade chocolate cake, loads of cocoa. Stunning! Really balanced with its sweet and rich characters. Once again the citrus notes appear later but in a small amount, oranges and grapes in particular.
Comments: All you would want from a sherried Balblair, all that light fruitiness perfectly balanced with beautiful chocolate notes. Definitely one for a sunset!Official Tasting Notes
Colour: The second release of Balblair 1990 is deep copper in appearance with hints of sparkling amber.
Nose: The aroma is spicy yet sweet and is punctuated with notes of raisins, toffee and honey. Hints of vanilla, chocolate and citrus fruits are also present.
Palate: On the palate it is full bodied; sweet and spicy in character with hints of honey, raisins and zesty fruits.
Finish: The finish is smooth and long-lasting.

A wee whisky fact

A wee whisky fact

What is Draff?
Draff

In Scotland, what is left of the grain after fermentation. It is used for animal food.

You might think that the cows of Scotland get drunk after eating draff.. However,  unfortunately for them, the alcohol is long gone from the barley leftovers.

The distillery’s are heading toward becoming more ecological as one distillery uses its waste heat to heat up a local swimming pool..
Benromach even has an organic whisky.

By the way, in Japan, cows are sometimes fed beer and massaged.

Scottish Chi
Behold! My Scottish Chihuahua. She is wearing a Clan Barclay Kilt.
She doesn’t like draff.
May the hinges of friendship ne’er rust nor the wings of love lose a feather
